Behind the scenes with Yingjie Weng

What happens behind the scenes of MedFIT? Meet Yingjie Weng, Business Development Manager, and discover what her day-to-day role looks like, what she enjoys most about connecting the healthcare innovation ecosystem, and her advice for making the most of your MedFIT experience.

Could you introduce yourself in a few words?

I’d describe myself as a C-A-R-E person: Curious, Approachable, Resilient and Energetic. With a bicultural background, I’m naturally curious about people, their stories and their projects.

Over the past seven years, I’ve enjoyed building relationships and bringing together people from diverse backgrounds. Seeing conversations turn into meaningful connections and opportunities is what gives me energy. And if, along the way, I can make someone’s day a little brighter or their journey a little easier, then I think I’m living up to my C-A-R-E philosophy!

What does a typical day look like as a Business Development Manager at MedFIT?

My days are a mix of conversations, meetings, follow-ups and, most importantly, connecting with people from across the healthcare innovation ecosystem. Every day is different: I could be talking to a startup in the morning, an investor or MedTech company in the afternoon, and brainstorming with the MedFIT team in between.

As with many Business Development roles, some days are brightened by a new deal, while others come with unanswered emails and follow-ups. The most important thing is to remember that there are always two sides to every coin. Sometimes, it’s not opportunities we lack, but the eyes to spot them. 👀

What do you enjoy most about your role?

What I enjoy most is meeting passionate people from different sides of the health innovation ecosystem: CEOs bringing innovative ideas to life, investors searching for “the right one”, and corporate teams shaping their next innovation strategy.

It feels a little like putting together a puzzle 🧩 — every conversation gives me a new piece. The more pieces I collect, the better I understand the ecosystem and how its different players can fit together. And that helps us make MedFIT more relevant and useful to the people we serve.

What's one thing people would be surprised to learn about your job?

Surprisingly, I barely speak Chinese in my day-to-day job!  As MedFIT has a predominantly European audience, I jumped into a French-English environment when I joined the team and started writing my first chapter in the health innovation industry. It has been quite a journey! With China playing an increasingly important role in the health industry, I’m excited to see how my international background could also contribute to making MedFIT even more inclusive, inspiring and internationally connected.

What advice would you give to someone attending MedFIT for the first time?

Start networking before you even arrive! Send your meeting requests as soon as the partnering platform opens, and don’t hesitate to connect with fellow participants on LinkedIn or share a post to create more opportunities for informal connections.

The MedFIT community is very friendly and approachable, so make the most of it! Chat with the person standing next to you, strike up a conversation between sessions, or raise a glass with someone new at the networking party. Sometimes, the best opportunities come from the most unexpected encounters.

And most importantly: follow up, follow up on the follow-up… and follow up on the follow-up of the follow-up! 😉 After all, a great conversation at MedFIT is only the beginning.

As Yingjie Weng reminds us, a great conversation at MedFIT can be the beginning of something bigger. Join us in Marseille on December 10th and 11th, 2026, and discover where your next connection could lead.
