Each year, the MedFIT Start-up Slams bring together some of the most promising healthcare innovations in Europe, giving entrepreneurs the opportunity to showcase their technologies to investors, industry leaders and healthcare experts.
Among the winners of the 2025 edition was Soundsafe Care, awarded in the Therapeutic & Implantable Medical Devices category. Led by Andrea Mariani, CEO and co-founder, the company is developing a robotics-powered ultrasound solution for non-invasive tumor ablation.
Their technology aims to transform the treatment of solid tumors by eliminating many of the side effects associated with current standards of care. Combining robotics with focused ultrasound, the solution enables treatment without incisions or drug-related toxicity, offering a less invasive alternative for patients.
Turning technological innovation into clinical practice
Developing such an advanced medical device has not been without challenges. According to Andrea Mariani, one of the most demanding aspects has been ensuring that sophisticated technology remains intuitive for clinicians.
“One of the biggest challenges has been integrating advanced technologies in a way that remains intuitive for clinicians. Balancing technological complexity with ease of use has required extensive iterations.”
The impact of the MedFIT Start-up Slams
Winning the MedFIT Start-up Slams represented an important opportunity to increase the company’s visibility within the European healthcare innovation ecosystem.
“Winning at MedFIT can increase our visibility with investors, industry leaders, and clinical partners. It can open doors to strategic discussions that help us validate our roadmap and accelerate key collaborations.”
Advice for future applicants
As applications open for a new edition of the MedFIT Start-up Slams, Andrea Mariani advises future candidates to focus on clarity and authenticity when presenting their innovation.
“Keep the narrative simple and evidence-based, but show your genuine passion and the great potential that your solution has.”
His advice reflects what makes the Start-up Slams unique: beyond the technology itself, investors and industry experts are looking for teams capable of clearly demonstrating the value, impact and ambition behind their innovation.
