Each year, the Collaborative & Licensing Opportunity Presentations (now known as the MedFIT Research & Licensing Partnerships) give researchers and innovators the opportunity to present promising healthcare technologies to industry leaders, investors and potential partners.
Among the winners of the 2025 edition was Amsterdam UMC, represented by its Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.
In this testimonial, the team looks back on its experience at MedFIT, the innovation it presented, and the opportunities that followed its participation.
First steps towards MedFIT
“Pitching at MedFIT has been a great experience. It started with the online warm-up session with coaches. Based on their feedback I was able to get the most out of the presentation at MedFIT in Strasbourg.”
Beyond the pitch
“At MedFIT I presented the work that is being carried out at our Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Brehm and colleagues are developing a new auto-adaptive device to quickly optimize walking performance with an ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) in patients with muscle weakness. Currently half of the patients with an AFO receive suboptimal treatment because finding the best personal stiffness is way too time consuming and requires high-end devices. We even envision a novel AFO that monitors and adjusts real time the necessary stiffness, dependent on the physical activities of the patient. Due to our extensive patient data set with 3D gait analysis and walking energy cost data at different stiffness levels, our next step is developing a predictive algorithm for personal stiffness. We collaborated with various research and private partners in previous parts of the research and are now looking for new partners to take the next steps together.”
